We’re here to make the purchase process as simple as possible.

Buying a firearm online doesn’t have to be complicated. We’re here to help every step of the way - here’s what to expect:

Step 1: Choose Your Firearm

  • Add to Cart: Found what you’re looking for? Great! Add it to your cart and proceed to checkout. Be sure to confirm the details like the model, caliber, and specifications before finalizing.

Step 2: Select Your FFL (Federal Firearms License) Dealer

  • Find an FFL Dealer Near You: During the checkout process, you’ll be asked to select an FFL. Federal law requires all firearms purchased online to be shipped to a licensed FFL dealer. You’ll need to choose an FFL where your firearm will be shipped for transfer.

  • Choose Heavy Metal Hardware: We offer low-cost and streamlined transfer services at HMH. Provide our information to the seller when they request it.

Step 3: Notify Us of Your Incoming Transfer

  • Contact HMH: Once your purchase is confirmed, notify us that your firearm is being shipped to us. This helps us expect your firearm and expedite the transfer process.

  • Provide Details: Include your name, the type of firearm, the seller’s details, and any tracking information you may have. We’ll take care of everything else with the retailer that you purchased from.

Step 4: Wait for Shipment and Delivery

  • Shipping Process: The seller will ship the firearm to us directly. This process can take a few days to a week, depending on the shipping method and seller’s location.

  • Delivery Notification: We will notify you as soon as your firearm arrives and is logged into our system. This is when we’ll also work with you to set up an appointment.

Step 5: Complete Background Check

  • Complete ATF Form 4473: Once your firearm is ready for pick-up, you’ll need to visit us to complete the necessary paperwork. This includes filling out ATF Form 4473 (Firearms Transaction Record).

  • Background Check: We will conduct a background check through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). This usually takes just a few minutes, though it can take longer in some cases. (If you possess a North Carolina Concealed Carry Permit, you are exempt from this requirement. However, you still must complete Form 4473).

Step 6: Pick Up Your Firearm

  • Payment for Transfer Fee: At the time of pick-up, you’ll need to pay the transfer fee for the service. HMH prides itself on offering one of the lowest fees in the market.

  • Receive Your Firearm: Once your background check is approved, you can legally take possession of your firearm. Our staff will go over any questions you may have and ensure the firearm is in good condition.

Important Notes

  • State Laws: Before making any firearms purchase, please familiarize yourself with both Federal and North Carolina laws related to them.

  • Prohibited Purchasers: If you are prohibited by law from owning a firearm, you will not be able to complete the transfer. Make sure to check your eligibility before making a purchase.

  • Questions?: If there’s anything that you’re unsure of with this process or just want more information, please reach out! We’ll be happy to help however we can.
